Welcome to Perfect Ponies

Perfect Ponies offers a comprehensive, integrated service for horses and their owners. By addressing mind, body and spirit of both horse and human, our aim is to help those experiencing behavioural or ridden problems, support the partnership of horse and rider and strengthen the performance of all our equine athletes.

Our values are

Address and rule out physical issues first. Often the same communication that can be construed as 'naughty' (e.g. biting, napping, bucking) is the only means a horse has of telling us that they are in pain. As an Equine Sports Massage Therapist I work alongside vets and other equine professionals to ensure the optimal physical health of the horse.

Treat holistically. Holistic means whole. Tackling just one aspect of equine care and management can be short-sighted and less effective. For example, muscular tension could be due to training style, rider position, tack or physical problems in the rider. By only treating the symptom of muscular tension without the cause, problems are more likely to recur. Perfect Ponies aims to address the whole picture by offering Rider Massage Therapy and Riding Assessments and Riding Lessons.

All horses are athletes and are doing a job. All horses are asked to do something they were never built for – carry a rider. Just as we would expect our employer to ensure we have suitable tools, training and conditions in which to carry out our work comfortably and effectively, so our horses deserve the same. Regular Equine Sports Massage treatments can help to assess and maintain the physical condition of your horse and ensure they are comfortable and willing in their work. It can help to identify problems at an early stage and to maintain and optimise performance. Reiki can help both horse and rider to relax. Many people view massage and Reiki as a way to give something back to their hard-working horses.

Communication is key. Often behavioural or ridden problems are due to a simple miscommunication between horse and rider. Understanding how your horse thinks, being consistent in your approach and honing your timing and application of aids (ridden and on the ground) will help you to work together with your horse in an effective and enjoyable way. Equine Psychology Lessons and Groundwork Sessions can help you to achieve this and can be fun ways to spend some time together, strengthening your bond and communication.

Work with horse and rider in a calm, considerate and professional manner.
